At the Pain Center, the goal of our clinical research is to understand the types of pain and the treatments that are most effective for each type. Through patient interviews and surveys, we collect comprehensive data to provide a better picture of each patient's individual experience of pain and his or her response to treatment. The data help define and differentiate pain syndromes and aid in determining appropriate treatments and their relative effectiveness.
We also have active research programs to understand patients' roles in their own treatment. Working closely with patients to determine their expectations will help in the choice of treatment used.
With your help, we will expand our clinical research to investigate postoperative pain, a type that persists longer than acute pain but usually resolves before it reaches the chronic stage. And we will pursue our long-term project to identify and categorize the many and diverse chronic pain syndromes.
